The process started with the museum sending their retired banners to Ecologic Designs. Instead of discarding these banners, which would have ended up in a landfill, they were transformed into something new and useful.
Ecologic Designs carefully deconstructed the banners, separating the fabric from the hardware, and then cleaned and prepped the material for sewing. From there, they cut the banners into the desired tote bag size and sewed them together, adding straps and zippers to complete the final product.
The result was a collection of unique tote bags, each with its own design and history, showcasing the Peabody Essex Museum’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
