The Waste Connections Events & Sustainability team was honored to work with NFL Green at the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City. This limited run of 33 backpacks is made from a banner that was collected specifically for this upcycling project. The remaining banners were given to local non-profits and charity groups in and around Kansas City, which help provide much needed fabrics, and materials to groups that employ, empower, and enrich the lives of community members through sewing classes and programs. This backpack also represents the power of industry leaders partnering together to focus on waste diversion, normally these banners would have ended up in a landfill, now they have a second life as cloths, and school book bags for children and families in need.
